In the second half, I discuss a home invasion case from Oceanside California in which the homeowner successfully defended himself.
A woman fatally shot a man in a Walmart parking lot after both chose to argue and escalate rather than disengage. She claims self-defense.
Question for the Crew: Did the situation meet the legal threshold of imminent threat of death or great bodily harm? This is why we train on de-escalation and legal standards.

Situation awareness, or situational awareness, is the understanding of an environment, its elements, and how it changes with respect to time or other factors. It is also defined as the perception of the elements in the environment, considering time and space, the understanding of their meaning, and the prediction of their status in the near future. It is also defined as adaptive, externally-directed consciousness focused on acquiring knowledge about a dynamic task environment and directed action within that environment.
